Blog comments is what makes a blog look alive. Apart from you providing frequent updates of course. But at a glance the comments from your audience is what meets the newcomers eye. It confirms you have something important to say to the world.
I’ll first show my workspace of the day and then give a small tip.
As you can see this was less than perfect. To close, held the camera the wrong direction, some one disturbed in the middle and ugly ending as it was difficult to edit on YouTube (An experiment), but I decided to publish any ways! This is to say, don’t get hung up on perfection! OK? 😉
The human race moves in herds. When one person makes the first comment it becomes much easier for others to brake into that empty space. It’s turns into a confirmation that this is an o.k. space, and cool, and you are joining the party.
All to often I run in to some nice writing and want to leave a comment to say thank you, give my own tip, react and be part of what it going on, because it gave me something of value. And then I get a version of this:

🙁 What A bummer! Usually I leave. It has to be a very important blog for me to go through the hassle of logging in to WordPress. Demanding that people are signed into wordpress.com makes me tired. I have an account but I dont have a blog there anymore so why should I be signed in?
Anything else, where I must create a NEW account – I just leave and never come back! Sorry, but there are so many blogs out there, I’ll find another one.
When I get one of those I feel fenced off. And when I feel fenced off, I get into rejection mode… Please, you don’t want your visitors to feel rejected!

First contact has to be moderated. Spam, hate and stupidity needs to be kept out!
