Today I will tell you a story about my Failure to Success. It’s the way to go, liking it or not. Most of us don’t like it, at all. Some even think it is possible to reach success without failing, many times, on the way.
This kind of illustration illustrates that wishful thinking. Sorry, it is all wrong according to me. Yet it is so very popular. As if they had nothing to do with each other. As if failures, mistakes, rejections and refusals are part of the wrong path. They are not!!!
I’ve had a ton of failures. Big ones and small ones. But it was when I experienced a “rock bottom” in my singing career that I decided to turn things around. I was not becoming younger I had to to something! I had to decide on another level. I had to stop taking others into account. Waiting for them. Being patient. Leaving room.
I put my foot down!
In front of myself!
Stella, this has to stop! NOW!
And I stopped!
There was a double billing. I was offered a role without even auditioning. A 25 minute solo in Hugo Weisgall’s opera “The Stronger”. It was written 1952, which means modern. Which means difficult. We where to go on tour in Finland and Sweden. The concept of the production was brilliant! And I really wanted to work with this cast.
It turned out it wasn’t as difficult as it sounded when I listened to it. No, it was horrid! And this is where the huge problem stepped in for me. There was only one pianist to work with two casts. I needed my own full time rehearsals, with full focus on me and my task. A solo of that magnitude is no joke! But I was more or less alone, because… There was not enough money in the production.
I’m not going to go through all we had to endure due to this lack of proper funding. Just say I cried on the day of the premiere. Before the performance…
When I came home I had made up my mind. I would never, ever again work under conditions like that! I’m not a student in my 20’s any more. I already went through that period of being the handy woman, the cleaner, the costume lady, the tech person, all in one beautiful appearance.
Don’t get me wrong. This is not the poor-me-diva-lament. We all had to do that. It was not good for any of us. And the production suffered, when it could have been so beautiful.
That very pain made me go home and tell my business partner and significant other: For me it is NOW or NEVER! I will not wait for you or even ask you. I will from now on go ahead and DO what needs to be DONE for me to be able to sing under dignified conditions. You can like it or not, this is non negotiable!
The same week we found someone wanting to swap apartments with us. We had ben looking for the right place for three years. Now we live in a gorgeous apartment, with a huge kitchen in a much better part of the city.
I joined a three month training on how to work your business online and we started to have leads coming to us, instead of using the old methods of asking people to join our opportunity.
Then I enrolled in DMC+, Inner Circle. I worked like crazy to understand and implement the teachings from the trainers and leaders within the industry.
Small amounts of money started to come in, passively! I worked even harder, glued to my computer. Then I decided to become a trainer myself. This method could help others too. I loved it!
The checks became bigger, my numbers increased and suddenly I was called a leader and had one on one chats with Ann Sieg, Coach Curt, Mark Hoverson and other successful people. They reached out to me. Personally!
Are you close to NOW or NEVER? I went from failure to success. Do you want to do the same? If so, visit here. Go ahead, read the information and take the trial month for less than $10. It changed my life. It could well change yours too!
