How looking good does affect your income
Looking good, does it feel like a thing of the past? Have you recently noticed that your skin has lost some of it’s elasticity? The skin color looks dull with lack of luster. On top of it, an uneven skin tone is more and more obvious and the pores of you face are getting deeper. Someone said she started to look like she’d been hit by asteroids, like the moon surface! Not fair to her, but that is how she perceived it.
Not only does age affect your appearance it can also do something to your wallet. Negatively, if you don’t tend to your looks. There is a book Beauty Pays: Why Attractive People Are More Successful
,written by Dr. Daniel Hamermesh in 2012. He is professor of economics at University of Texas. In it he reveals his research showing that attractive people are likely to earn 3-4% more than the average looking. In this article from Wall Street Journal you can learn more about his findings.
Reading this and then looking in the mirror can create distress. Something I’ve noticed as I look at middle aged women is that many of you sort of give up. As if older meant uglier and that is simply not true! On the other hand we have the desperate kind, doing anything to appear young and instead loose dignity, charm and personality.
Personally I think women 40+ plus can be absolutely ravishing, beating your younger peers as easy as cake. It all depends on how well you take care of yourself and honor who you are. Self care pampers beauty so you can keep on looking good! With that theory self care also pampers your economy.
The article ends with this quote: “Surgery pays back less than $1 for every $1 spent.”. Would you do surgery if your career depended on it? Tell me your thoughts about looks and money!
Huuu, never surgery! I simply love my body too much and have had needles and knives in it for medical reasons way too many times as a child, so no thanks. The less knives cutting into this body the better! 🙂 And I have to say as well, I only look better every year! Probably because I love myself more and more 🙂
Self love turns into charisma, humor, confidence etc and THAT makes you truly attractive. A nice haircut, glowing skin and a good looking suit and your ready to go! 😉
If we perceive ourselves to be beautiful, we would smile more, feel happy then be happy! I would never have surgery for my “job”, but I can see how some people in the entertainment industry would. I have seen too many “mistakes” or bad jobs for me to even consider. 🙂

A problem for people in the entrainment industry is that we are dependent on our bodies to function well. If something goes wrong our “platform” can be ruined for ever! What would it be to sing with duck lips…? I don’t even want to know! 😀
You can keep your surgery. If my career depended on it, I’d find another career…
You know, I think we put far too much emphasis on the “perfect” beauty. I see women walking around with too much tan, false lips and so much botox they would crack if they smiled. It’s not real, we’re not dolls.
I’ll stop ranting now!
I wholeheartedly agree with you Jan! It’s a rant I go into myself now and then on this blog. Actually it is one of the reasons it exists! 🙂 We all like to look good, but as it is now the foundation of beauty is so superficial I cringe! No surgery, period!
I’m only 20, but I hope I’m never tempted to have surgery! Too many women are insecure about the way they look and I think this is really sad. It doesn’t help that all the pictures in magazines are airbrushed and tweaked here and there, so what we are seeing isn’t a real representation of that person anyway! Thoughts?
Hi Sophie, glad to have you here! Unfortunately not only women are going down this route. Yet, I think we have a very deep set desire to look good, to make an impression with our appearance. I even think it is biological. Look at the animal kingdom, everywhere you see the same thing. Looks and size are important all over the place. Also looking into human history you always see the same thing in every culture. Looks, appearance and youyh are always hailed. Therefore I don’t think we should scorn ourselves for this desire or diminish it. AND – at the same time there are other aspects of life and humanity that in our western cultures (not all western cultures are the same!) are neglected more and more.
I still think this is turning around for spiritual, social, loving aspects of life to becomes more important. 🙂
I unfortunately agree that in our world today we are first judged on our looks. Not many take the time to learn about the person behind the first impression. I feel that taking care of the outer body is simply a reflection of how we feel inside. I would not consider surgery and don’t feel that is taking care of our body. Being real, being happy and taking care of ourself for our lifetime is a much better choice for me. Best Regards, Wendy
Absolutely yes! Plastic surgery has nothing to with taking care of your body, unless we are talking about medical/social implications. Then it is a miraculous wonder to be grateful for!
Hi Stella, always a pleasure to read you! Everything begins with you. I believe that every women has her own unique beauty. Confidence and how you feel inside is what matters. Of course, taking care of yourself is also very important. As far as spending on your beauty, it is an investment. You have to make sure that whatever you buy gives you RESULTS. Personally I would not do plastic surgery for any job. I think it takes away your natural beauty.
Great post! 🙂
Lovely to have you here again Bianca! I agree with you on the plastic surgery, it does take away the natural beauty. And YES, when something is stated on the label that promise should be kept!
