World Health Day

World Health Day

World Health day mark the anniversary of the founding of WHO in 1948.

World Health Day is today, the 7 of April!  Did you know? I didn’t. It was when I was pondering what to write about when a friend informed me. Sure thing, this blog is about sleep, health and self care so let’s honor this day!

This year’s World Health Day is dedicated to high blood pressure. Hmmm, is there a connection to complexion here? Yes it can well be, if you are on medication for high blood pressure. Water pills or diuretica are commonly prescribed to people with high blood pressure. Other conditions prescribed this kind of medication are heart failure, kidney and liver problems.

All these side effects.

I’m not going to say anything about these conditions. I just want to point to side effects that can occur. These medications can give you dehydration and cause dry skin, even skin rash.

They’re supposed to help your body get rid of unneeded water and salt through urine. Be observant if you experience your skin feeling tight or itchy. Medication can also make you feel wasted and weak. A racing heart is another uncomfortable experience. As are muscle cramps (your heart is a muscle… Hmmmm…) and headaches.

If you sense any side effects contact your doctor! Also make sure you don’t burden your system with skin care products that make things worse… Perhaps you know someone taking this kind of medication? If so, it can be a good thing to inform them about this. Sudden skin rash might seem like no big deal. But, could be a sign to be taken seriously.

Can we focus on health now, please?

World Health Day focuses on dis-ease. I think it would be much more productive to actually focus on health and well being, as the name suggests. Focus on health and the lifestyle changes we can make to feel better and become healthier. Here you can find More information on World Health Day.

  1. Your skin is beautiful! I tend to be a bit overzealous in what goes into my body and may affect my skin or health. This is such important words to share. Thank you!

  2. Great info! Had no idea the drug influenced the health of your skin as well. Not shocked, but good to know 🙂 And yes, what if our health care could be just that. Instead of being disease-care. I will be blogging about that today!

  3. I guess that’s one of the good things about something like World Health Day, Stella, we get lovely posts like this reminding us and making us aware of such things.

A nice reminder of how our body is interconnected and something (such as high blood pressure) can impact something else which seems unrelated, such as skin condition.

I also agree about putting our attention on health and ‘wellness’, how possible and easy we can make it for ourselves.

    1. Hi Hema! We are whole beings. It’s so strange that medicine today seems to be under the impression that you can separate any part of the body from the other. Especially our biggest organ, our skin!

  4. Many good points you make for your blog post! Focusing on “Health” for World Health Day would be extraordinary! It never has made sense to me for doctors to prescribe a medication for one problem to only have more problems or side effects in the body from that 1 medication. Better to teach a Wholistic approach for health and find the root cause to heal that! Thanks for sharing. Wendy
